<p><strong>Andy Smetanka has lived in Minnesota, Montana, Finland and Sweden for a total of 40 years. He has made animated movies with Isabella Rossellini, the Decemberists and his cinematic mentor Guy Maddin, among others. He makes animation using hand-cut silhouettes, colored backgrounds and a Soviet super 8 camera. Smetanka, his wife Joanna and their two boys are live-in caretakers on the Moon-Randolph Homestead in the grassy hills north of Missoula.</strong></p>
