Since the age of sixteen, I have been traveling back and forth to East Africa. I love Swahili culture and am continually drawn back by the desire to improve the quality of life for people living in dire poverty. I became near fluent in Swahili while living in Tanzania as a Boren Scholar and recently completed a Master's of Public Health as a Fulbright Scholar at Imperial College London. I have now returned to Kenya to work in Mathare, Nairobi's second largest slum.
