67 Sueños Youth Mentor

I became involved with 67 Sueños after realizing that migrant youth living in East Oakland were largely marginalized from the debate about immigration - abou ttheir future. I began organizing migrant youth and building safe spaces for youth to meet, feel connected and empowered as a group rather than isolated as individuals. The youth eventually formed a collective, the 67 Sueños collective and focuses on story telling and art as a way to push back against the culture of hate.

I was born of migrant parents and have had a mixeds status family for most of my life. Immigration has always been a defining issue in my home and I take it very personally. Youth empowerment work has also been a defining labor for me. I've been involved in community groups and youth work since I was an adolecent and believe strongly that time invested in young people is time invested in our future.

67 Sueños has brought together my pasions and skills and allowed me to support the leadership and empowerment of the youth who I feel most need this support. I hope you get achance to hear their stories and fall in love with them as I have.
