A chance encounter involving busking, banjos, and bikes is what started it all. Though these ingredients sound potentially dangerous, The Blackwood Two (Dan Belgue and Megan McCaffrey) have not only lived to talk about it, but have grown into one of the countries most fun folk acts along the way. With sunny fiddles and banjos, the duo blends elements of straight up old time music with their original, foot stompin’ feel good compositions to create an irresistible and infectious new sound they dub “old time street folk!”

The music they make has been evolving over the two whirlwind years they have been playing together, and after two cross Canada tours, gigging and busking in every province in the country, a handful of festival slots, an EP they recorded entirely on their own, countless hours on Greyhound busses, and 4 months of sleeping in their tour van ‘Bandita’, the duo feels they have finally arrived at a place where musically, they are growing into their own.

Their well honed, energetic, and fun live show is always a good time. Fast fiddlin’ takes you on a ride; driving guitar provides a steady, organic, old time rhythm; solid clawhammer banjo channels the sounds of Appalachia; sweet harmonies seamlessly mold into one. These elements (as well as some poorly delivered banjo jokes), keep audiences captivated, smiling, and tapping along the whole time.

What it all boils down to is passion. The Blackwood Two is an incredibly hard working independent folk act. Their love for music and performing drives them to continually explore the possibilities of the traditions they are steeped in, while always looking ahead to new ideas and sounds.

The material The Blackwood Two is currently writing and performing will be laid down in the Spring of 2012, as they prepare to record a follow up to their debut EP ‘No More Worries’.
