Is there a Queen in the hive?

No. I’m not a queen, but I know a lot about nutrition, food justice and bees.

My name is Maryam Henein & I am the founder of HoneyColony. I am also an investigative journalist and the director of the internationally acclaimed documentary Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page.

Making Vanishing of the Bees over the past five years stressed the fact that food – organic food - is sacred medicine and that our current agricultural landscape with it’s monocultures and poisonous chemicals is unfortunately unsustainable. Health is our birthright, we just need access to the right information and food alternatives.

My path toward a holistic lifestyle started nine years ago, at the age of 29, when I stepped into a cross walk and was hit by a Ford Explorer at 35 miles an hour. The incident hurled my life along a transformational trajectory. Overnight I went from a young go-getting freelance journalist to a young woman with broken bones and a titanium rod in her leg.

Because of the trauma, I eventually developed a host of heatlh issues (PST, insomnia, leaky gut, candida, food allergies). Curious, I began researching everything I could about alternative medicine, nutrition and the healing properties of plants, vitamins, minerals and super foods.

As I delved into the world of nutrition I realized that it is also filled with scams, bogus products, and hyped-up promises. With HoneyColony my goal is to create a trusted resource to help people navigate through the plethora of alternatives on the market, both on the shelf and online.

HoneyColony will bring the Waggle Dance to an eco-conscious community of people who expect the best from their nutrition.

I am dedicated to raising awareness about our bees, food justice issues and healthy living.
