I'm a journalist, writer, documentary film-maker

Some of you may have heard me on The Moth, or know my book or my work on PBS' Frontline. My collaboration with director Charlotte Brathwaite, a 2019 Creative Capital Fellow, is called "Casting the Vote: a Call to a Count." I'm a professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, and Charlotte is an Associate Professor at MIT in the Theater Arts Department. Together, we want to start a conversation about Democracy and the role each of us plays in it.
