The gift of music that keeps on giving!

WELCOME!
Welcome to my indiegogo campaign! This project is the most important creative journey on which I've ever embarked. Not only am I asking you to become part of a wonderful musical project, but I've also set up a system where your donations go towards several kinds of charitable giving!

If you know me personally, you know that I wouldn't feel right about getting this level of help and support from people without being able to help others as a result. It took me a long time to craft a plan of action for how I could achieve this, and it finally came to me: create an album that will be indirectly funded by volunteer work, and then give the proceeds away to charity. It's a musical gift that keeps on giving.

So what's the plan?
I'd like to go into the studio in September to record an album with four amazing musicians and one fantastic producer, featuring about 13 incredible songs to create one chartible album. Phew...sounds like a lot of work...but I can do it with your help!

I'll be getting together with four of my favorite musicians - Michael Kanan on the piano, Peter Bernstein on the guitar, Neal Miner on the bass and Eliot Zigmund on the drums. We'll be going into the studio under the creative supervision of the inimitable Jane Monheit. There we will record a whole slew of my favorite songs for your listening enjoyment.

What some of the expenses involved in making an album?
Recording an album is expensive! Your donations will fund recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, personnel fees, photography, publication rights, and promotion.

What are you doing to make it charitable?
So this is where it gets interesting. I've come up with three ways that this project will be a charitable endeavor. First, every donation made gets a perk. As the donations get bigger, the perks get better. Every pledge over $100 involves me personally volunteering to do some kind of community service. You and I will be in touch, and you will choose between three different activities that I can do as a volunteer IN HONOR OF YOUR DONATION!

Next, any money that we raise OVER our goal of $15,000 will go directly towards my presdesignated charity.

Finally, all digital proceeds (which, in this day and age, is everything) goes to my predesignated charity. This means even if I sell a CD from a my website, that's still a digital proceed - so it means CD Baby, amazon.com, itunes...everything.

Tell me about your designated charity.
When I was in NYC, I was lucky enough to work closely with a fabulous organization called ArtStrides. I cannot tell you how wonderful and generous these women are. I'll let them tell you a little bit about themselves:

Mission
ArtStrides believes that children who make music and art with their families grow into adults who contribute to their world. Our mission is to help bridge the achievement gap by providing access to developmentally appropriate, arts-based programming that fosters social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development. We build strong, healthy community connections by encouraging participation by all, affirming every child's right to grow up confident, loving, and having developed the capacity for self-expression.

Company Overview

For many years, we have been lucky enough to share the joys and benefits of family music making with thousands of families. Today we want to spread that joy even further. We believe in the power of music and know that the arts are a necessary, integral part of life. We also understand that education starts and continues at home and that children who make music and art with their families live better, more well-rounded happier lives. They grow into confident, successful adults who contribute to their world.
The Women of ArtStrides have come together to create a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the achievement of children from all walks of life. ArtStrides will enable us to secure the funding needed to bring arts-based educational programs, like Music Together®, to parents and children who otherwise could not afford it.

Contact them at: info@artstrides.org

What perks can I receive?
Look to your right. See them? There they are. They include everything from a thank you email to me doing volunteer work to me giving a private concert at your home or business. There are some goodies there - check it out.

How much can I donate?
Well, gee. I suppose as much as you'd like! Any amount that we raise over the goal goes directly to ArtStrides. So if you are feeling rich and generous...or maybe you are just a little drunk....and you give me $25,000, then I will give $10,000 to Artstrides and go make the album WITH YOU as the executive producer!

HOW CAN I HELP?!?!?
Simple - donate and spread the word. Send an email, post it on facebook, tweet the project. Spreading the word is huge. I need a lot of great people to step up and help me make this dream a reality.

Why don't you have twitter?
My brain is technologically maxed out. I will happily draw you a bird in your thank you note, but I can't handle having another "account to update."

Questions? That's what I'm here for - send me an email, find me on facebook, come to one of my performances and chat with me on a break. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you thank you thank you for your support. Let's do this!
