Paso Pacífico empowers communities and conserves ecosystems in Central America. We work from ridge to reef in conservation, science and education.
Dr. Sarah Otterstrom founded the non-profit organization Paso Pacífico after completing her PhD dissertation work in 2005. Sarah was inspired to create an organization to respond to the need for place-based conservation that works at the grassroots level in partnership with communities and landowners. She has since led a coalition of groups to protect endangered sea turtles and forest wildlife, plant native trees, and provide hands-on environmental education for children in Nicaragua.
