I am an interdisciplinary artist from St. Louis Missouri. My work ranges from dance, theater, poetry, performance art, design and film. My focus is on new and international works that are progressive, bold and innovative. My current concentration is now in film. By incorporation my past training I plan on creating films that can go far beyond entertainment and instead become instruments of growth, discovery and erudition. I am now focusing on producing and directing though I have served as a production and costume designer, assistant director, writer, and production manager. My diverse background in film production has made me a strong asset to any independent film making team as I can fill several roles at once while understanding the overall scope of realizing a film. My motive for art making is to initiate social, political and humanist change. Art is a reflection of life and I fully understand the complexities and challenges of modern life.
My home town company, Expressional Mafia Entertainment, is a conglomerate of various artists who strive to create revolutionary art while functioning as a socialist democracy. Through our artistic practices as well as our work we plan to show how a group of people, no matter what the size can cooperate and coexist in an environment of equality and fairness. We are a group of musicians, actors, writers, dancers, fine artists and creators who work not for profit, but only for the opportunity to keep creating art. The main focus of our work is to awaken youth to the socio-political chaos they are imbibed in and offer them an opportunity to change the world through collaborative art making.
My work ranges for the Bermuda International Theater to the NYU Skirball center. I have trained a dancer at the University of Legon in Ghana and receive my BA from the University of Missouri Saint Louis in Theater and Dance with a concentration in English. I am currently an MFA candidate at California Institute of the Arts. My recent work includes The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek, Fredrick Douglass Now, Samsara, Purgatory In Ingolstadt and Macbeth (a film) in which I served various positions as producer, designer, dancer, choreographer, manager and makeup artist. I am currently producing and co-directing a documentary in Palestine in which I will document a youth theater festival in the West Bank.
Art is a reflection of the world, and a means to institute progress. My mission statement is simple. To facilitate art that is progressive, revolutionary, inspiring and has the potential to capture the zeitgeist that I feel is not only essential to worthwhile art, but a life worth living. The artists I seek to work with are highly individualistic, not motivated by profit, and exceptionally original. They work more by feeling than adhering to rules, and create a reflection of their personality rather than a product. I am not only an artist but a post-modern revolutionary, an environmentalist and most importantly a catalyst for change. All of these factors permeate through my everyday existence and the art that I have the opportunity to be a part of.
