write for life

After 25 years as a performer, director and teacher, I have added writer, editor and consultant to my realm of experience.

In 2009, I co-authored THE CANCER BOOK: 101 Stories of Courage, Support and Love, published by Chicken Soup for the Soul. Subsequently, I was asked to speak at events for the American Cancer Society and did many media interviews on the subject of expressive writing and its value for people dealing with cancer.

In 2010, Genentech, who make cancer medicines, asked me to create and facilitate writing workshops in cancer centers around the country in a pilot program called Write to Fight Cancer. They were very successful and the feedback from hospitals, patients, caregivers, and medical staff was terrific. I am now continuing this work on my own.

I have created the Write for Life Foundation and my mission is to take this work further. I am also writing a book of the same name that illustrates how self-expressive writing can be a coping and healing tool for those struggling with cancer and other crisis.

To invite and accommodate support for the workshops and book, I have secured a contract with Unique Projects, a non-profit arts organization, who will serve as my fiscal sponsor, allowing me to accept fees and donations from corporations, groups and individuals as tax-deductible transactions.
Monies are payable to them and then pass on to me to cover the costs of administration, travel, and workshops fees.

Once I gather sufficient funds, I will be able to organize a series of writing workshops, some of them in places I have already been, where I have been asked to return.

I also hope to raise enough money to complete and publish the book, which will be distributed free to workshop participants and otherwise for sale.

As I move forward with this project, I invite you to become a partner in my mission to support patients, caregivers, and medical staff in their respective battles with cancer. That’s what Write for Life is all about.

ps and book, I have secured a contract with Unique Projects, a non-profit arts organization, who will serve as my fiscal sponsor, allowing me to accept fees and donations from corporations, groups and individuals as tax-deductible transactions.
