<p>Monica Shriver can be seen performing in a wide variety of musical situations all over Arizona. A professional musician, clinician, composer &amp; arranger, and teaching artist based out Phoenix, AZ, Monica has played in big bands, jazz combos, pit orchestras, rock bands, chamber ensembles, and orchestras. Monica regularly performs on all the saxophones, flute and piccolo, clarinet and bass clarinet, and is currently working on her bassoon and electric bass chops.</p> <p>Monica enjoys a diverse and creative career performing all kinds of music, including flute and saxophone in the unifying world ensemble the <a href="http://www.pangeanorchestra.com/" target="_blank">Pangean Orchestra</a>, bari saxophone with the funky <a href="http://hotbirdsandthechilisauce.com/" target="_blank">Hot Birds &amp; the Chili Sauce</a>, and bari sax with the <a href="http://www.azdanceband.com/index.html" target="_blank">Sonoran Serenade Big Band</a> and the Superstition Jazz Orchestra. Monica most recent project is The <a href="http://www.doublerscollective.com/">Doublers Collective</a>, a unique and progressive jazz saxophone quintet made up of fellow professional doublers.</p> <p>Monica studied classical saxophone under Wildy Zumwalt at Northern Arizona University, classical flute under Elizabeth Buck, jazz with Mike Crotty, Pete Vivona, Dave Schmidt, Chuck Marohnic, and jazz arranging under Mike Crotty.&nbsp; Monica earned her BA in Music from Arizona State University in 2003, graduating Magna Cum Laude.</p> <p>Monica enjoys being a teaching artist in Phoenix. In addition to doing masterclasses and clinics, she maintains an active and successful private studio with students earning Regionals, All-State and National Honor Band honors. From 2005 – 2011 she taught saxophone, clarinet, bassoon and jazz band at <a href="http://www.goasa.org/" target="_blank">Arizona School for the Arts</a>.&nbsp; Monica is an active member of <a style="color: rgb(255, 17, 17);" href="http://www.promusicaz.org/" target="_blank">AFM Local 586 – American Federation of Musician – Arizona</a>, the <a style="color: rgb(255, 17, 17);" href="http://www.saxalliance.org/" target="_blank">North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA)</a>, the <a href="http://www.jazzednet.org/" target="_blank">Jazz Education Network (JEN)</a> and <a href="http://www.menc.org/" target="_blank">NAfME, formerly MENC</a>.</p> <p>Monica earned the prestigious&nbsp; <a href="http://www.surdna.org/" target="_blank">SURDNA</a> Fellowship Grant in 2010 to study jazz improvisation and a Professional Growth Grant from the <a href="http://www.azarts.gov/" target="_blank">Arizona Commission for the Arts</a> in 2011. Monica is a sponsored project of <a href="https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/contribute/donate/4062" target="_blank">Fractured Atlas.</a></p>
