Jenny Mackenzie

Salt Lake City, Utah, United States

Director of SUGAR BABIES

Director and Producer, Jenny Mackenzie, Ph.D.’s previous work focuses on social impact filmmaking, and bringing social and racial justice issues as well as public health dilemmas far beyond the screening room to maximize discussions, education, outreach, and social change. Her most recent film, KICK LIKE A GIRL, premiered on HBO, has won numerous awards and is being used in school curricula around the
country, fostering discussions of gender equality. On a personal level, Jenny understands diabetes because three generations in her family have been affected by type 1 (her aunt, brother, and 14-year-old daughter were all diagnosed). Throughout the last 10 years watching Lizzie live with diabetes, Jenny realized that giving these children the opportunity to tell their stories of courage and resilience as they live on the edge with diabetes was a critical piece of public health education. She has a BA from Brown University, an MSW from Simmons College, and a Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
