“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin

Just completed a Masters program in International Education Policy, an amazing learning experience. While here, my colleagues and I collaborated to develop an instructional approach and accompanying curriculum to meet the needs of linguistically marginalized populations living in rural Tanzania. The approach is based on research demonstrating the benefits of using a childs first language to scaffold second language learning and content area learning. We plan to run a six-week after-school pilot program in September in order to test the efficacy of the pedagogical approach.

Over the past four years I have worked on a variety of projects dedicated to improving educational opportunities for students and teachers living in rural Tanzania. As such, I fostered a collaborative and trusting environment whereby Tanzanian students, teachers, school leaders and community members could join an international community of learners to co-design and implement educational programs for formal and informal settings. Working closely with corporate and individual sponsors, school administrators, and teachers from America and Tanzania, we have, to varying degrees of success, implemented several educational programs to support literacy and learning.
