<p>Carol Friedman has been documenting icons of the music and art worlds for more than two decades. An avowed music lover, her classic images of jazz, soul and classical recording artists have been published worldwide and may be seen in magazines, on book covers and on hundreds of album and cd covers. Jazz artists,“the irreplacable ones” were her first subjects and continue to inspire her work. In his review of her acclaimed retrospective, The Jazz Pictures, Nat Hentoff said “I have seen many photographs of jazz musicians through the years, but Carol Friedman’s are beyond category. She has illuminated the very souls of these improvisors on and in the life force”.</p> <p>Friedman was creative director for Elektra Entertainment and art director and chief photographer for Blue Note Records in the eighties and served as vice president;creative director for Motown Records in the ninetes. She now works independently as photographer, designer and director on a variety of image campaigns, music packages and book and film projects.</p> <p>Abbey Lincoln: The Music Is The Magic is her first feature- length film.</p>
