Passion and purpose: All the fuel I need

My first professional aim was the be a therapist. I spent 2 years in a Masters in Psychology program working on the upcoming book, The Social Neuroscience of Education, by Dr. Louis Cozolino. It was during this time that I realized that there are significant parallels between a therapeutic environment and a classroom environment: both are simply interpersonal learning settings where all growth and development takes place in the context of the relationship!

Whereas therapists are trained to leverage the relationship with their clients to promote their personal growth, we leave it to chance that teachers have the social proclivities to connect with students and inspire them through emotionally supportive relationships. But it doesn't have to be this way. As I gained greater awareness of this deficit in teacher training - and the potential for what education could be if the gap was filled - I became more and more inspired to create change with FuelEd.
