I am a journalism professor who just finished a book, Jewels in the Delta. A book about church women in the Mississippi Delta.

After being a photojournalist for multiple U.S. newspapers, such as a picture editor for The Dallas Morning News and the deputy director of photography at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, I decided I wanted to teach. I was hired as a professor at The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 2012. I became enchanted by the Delta, especially the warm and loving people and decided to do a book of church mothers to honor the memory of my grandmother, Althenia Burton. This project is to honor her.
