Angels for Baby Abby

Our angel, Abagayle Rose Muszynski, was born on 9-14-2011 with a very rare genetic birth disorder called Aicardi Syndrome. When Abagayle arrived in this world, she appeared to be a perfectly healthy baby except for an eye that would not open. This was the beginning of our nightmare, only it became a reality.

Just a few weeks after her birth, Abby was poked, prodded, and led through EEG's, MRI's, Cat Scans and eye exams that forced her little eyes open by metal prongs and then dialated. All this led to her final devasting diagnoses which was delivered by a Pediatric Opthamalogist 6 weeks later. We will never forget that dreadful day. There we sat holding our baby girl in the doctor's chair, holding hands. The doctor came in and asked ... do you want "the good news first or bad news"? What an insane question to ask at a time like this.

We were then told that our beautiful innocent baby girl was born with a very rare birth defect called Aicardi Syndrome. She would suffer with daily life threatening seizures, chronic pulmonary/breathing problems, and severe retardation. She may never walk, talk or function on her own. This was the bad news. Then the good news came...the doctor then told us "at least she wasn't a boy." Baby boys die in utero. To make matters even worse, we were told Abby had microphalymia (small eye) and was blind in her left eye. She also had Agensis of the Corpus Collosum where part of her brain is missing. These additional medical problems were part of the markers for the Aicardi disease. This news was the beginning of a devasting journey for which we were about to embark.

And here were are now...nine months later where Baby Abby, seeks to amaze us every day. She wakes every day with a smile that lights up the room. She kicks and puts her hands up with she sees Mommy or Daddy enter the room - but she struggles to lift her head or body as she has no head control. She tries to suck her thumb and sometimes gets it to her mouth but sometimes she is too shaky with her hands. And music seems to comfort her most as she falls asleep with her favorite lullaby
