The life of Daniel

I lived most of my life in Henderson Kentucky and moved to Louisville 6 years ago. I never thought I would miss the Ohio River so much until we lived in Duquoin Illinois for five years. I felt like I was landlocked and missed seeing the river when I wanted to. That is the reason my wife Janet and I choose Louisville when we moved here. This city was in the middle of everything and had everything you could imagine. We tried to eat at every restaurant we could for the first three years. Even if you have a favorite place to eat it would change to another place and not for the better. Kimis Asian Bistro and Dillion's Steak House we miss the most.

My wife and I have five goldfish in a 75 gallon fish tank. One of them Sabrina is over thirteen years old or so. Riki and Kimi are brothers and are around seven or eight with are newest two Bala and Zara are around two years old. They are pretty and fun to watch but hard to take care of and keep healthy. I am a little jealous of the dog owners taking thier pets to Petsmart to go shopping. My fish are not that portable and only carer about food and eating plants.

My other hobby is Transformers Robots in Disguise, yes the toys. My wife and I have went to three Botcon conventions and each time it has grown. The first time was 38 year old guys with little social skills to the last time with woman and kids galore. They are already future generation next fans so it will continue for another twenty five years or more. Meetin Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime and all the other voice talent was a wonderful experience for us.

I have been in customer service in one way or another for twenty five years. I knew I wanted to go in to retailing because as a kid my mother would take us into all the grocery stores around town. Before one stop shopping and internet deals mom would cut coupons out of the newspaper find the best sales items and get everything for as cheap as possible. Of course gas was under a $1 a gallon and it was cheaper to make more trips to the store then. I was facinated by the aisle and how each store was set up, the colors on the merchandise and the items. It did not help that we lived in a product test area for the major product lines. I new soda pop, cereal, or candy would come out for a few months and then would be gone for ever. Let's see if you remember 7Up gold, Like soda, Magic Middles cereal, Mooslix ceeral, and Sprinkle Spangles cereals. If you know any of these you are probably as old as I am, hey no big deal.

I have worked at Sureway foods and Buehler's Buy Low food markets as Frozen food managers and as a person in charge. (not getting paid anymore to do the work as a manager would). I won two Roundy's March Frozen Food contests and over a thousand dollars in prizes. So I am very creative and willing to be inventive. I worked at Wal-Mart as Grocery, Hardware and as a Department Manager before becoming an Assistant Manager. I worked in a wonderful little Neighborhood Market with a great group that cared about the store. I loved working at this store so much and appreciate everyone there. The Neighborhood Markets were not expected to make a profit and were set up to loose money. We made a profit every quarter and we even had growth. I taught the associates that the customer is what make a business grow. You have to give them what they want to buy when they want to buy it. Most Walmarts have a lot of empty shelves and this is one of the things that we had fixed. The new system is to put very little out on the shelves and leave the rest in the back room. I do not think that works very well with more empty shelves then ever before. This will be Walmarts biggest down fall, well besides the integrity issues that are happening everwhere.

I do not want to go back to work for ungratefull idiots that have never work in a store to begin with. This why I want to go into business for myself to be happy at what I am doing. To have a rewarding career that I can be proud of and can cherish. Everyone has a right to have respect and happiness where they work.
