<div id="entry_620216" class="entry"> <div class="project_content">Erin Li focuses on originating, writing and directing character-driven, visually interesting and emotionally visceral films that expose audiences to under-represented worlds, people and ways of life &ndash; films that she hopes will entertain and inspire. <p>Born to immigrant parents in New Jersey, Erin Li&rsquo;s path to filmmaking began in the fine arts world; she has painted and drawn since she could pick up a pencil. Li has studied painting at the Llotja School of Design and Art in Barcelona, Spain and her works have been showcased in New York and London.</p> <p>She discovered her love of filmmaking at Carnegie Mellon University while producing short films in conjunction with PBS and the School of Drama.&nbsp; After obtaining her bachelor&rsquo;s degree in business administration and drama, Li worked in finance in New York and Hong Kong for several years before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her passion.</p> <p>Li&rsquo;s most recent film, <a title="TO THE BONE - Official Trailer (HD)" href="https://vimeo.com/45307907" target="_blank">TO THE BONE</a>, tells the story of one preteen migrant farmworker who attempts to defy the status quo with unintended consequences for herself and her family.&nbsp; It was one of six films greenlit and commissioned by Film Independent to explore themes of California and democracy. &nbsp;Erin directed and co-wrote this film as part of Film Independent&rsquo;s Project:Involve fellowship program.</p> <p>Li is currently developing a feature that is an adaptation of <a title="L.A. Coffin School - First Day of School" href="https://vimeo.com/23746271" target="_blank">L.A. COFFIN SCHOOL</a>, which screened at the Directors Guild of America during opening weekend of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.&nbsp; The film, written and directed by Li as part of Visual Communication&rsquo;s Armed with a Camera fellowship, is about a recently transplanted Chinese grandmother who enrolls in a school that claims to teach people how to start life anew.&nbsp; Other projects in the pipeline include a sci-fi feature set in the near future, a dramedy web series, a series of fashion lookbook films and several music videos.</p> <p>She skydived in Queenstown, New Zealand to raise funds for UNICEF. Her favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip. Mango comes in at a close second.</p> </div> </div>
