<p><span id="internal-source-marker_0.39792715601007267" style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Veena Rao is a New York based filmmaker and producer. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">She has co-directed several short documentaries that have screened at various festivals including Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, and have aired on the Documentary Channel and Current TV. Art of Balance, a film about an art dealer and aikido instructor whose gallery transforms into a dojo, won the 2008 Rockport Center for the Arts "Arts in Film" Award. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">In 2008, she co-produced Art, Architecture and Innovation: Celebrating the Guggenheim Museum, a documentary about the history of the museum&rsquo;s landmark New York building. The film screened at Guggenheim institutions and festivals around the world and aired on PBS in 2010. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">In 2009, she worked as an associate producer on Cooked, Judith Helfand&rsquo;s documentary work in progress about the 1995 Chicago heatwave and the politics of disaster. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">In addition, Veena has produced video content for the New Yorker, the Guggenheim Museum, nyc.gov, and Working Films. She has also screened documentary submissions for POV, Chicken and Egg Pictures, and Brooklyn Film Festival. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">She is currently an associate producer on Yoruba Richen&rsquo;s film, The New Black, and is in post production on her own documentary, There She Is, which follows two plus size pageant contestants. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Veena holds a BFA from NYU&rsquo;s Tisch School of the Arts and is a member of New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT) and The Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective (BFC).</span></p>
