<p><span>Cuban-American writer & filmmaker Vanessa Libertad Garcia grew up between the ‘burbs and hoods of Los Angeles, California. A graduate of Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Film Production, she’s completed a myriad of successful projects in both the film and literary worlds.</span></p> <p>On a cinematic front, she’s worked in various capacities as writer, director, and producer on fiction films and documentaries, such as the HSF/McNamara Arts Grant recipient <em>A Two Woman One Act</em>, and <em>Maid in America</em>, which debuted on <strong>PBS’ <em>Independent Lens</em></strong>. Vanessa’s films have screened at top festivals, including <em><strong>The LA Film Fest, The Habana Film Fest,</strong> Cinequest, <strong>Outfest,</strong> The International Film Festival of Cinema and Technology, Fusion: LGBT People of Color Film Festival, Frameline Film Festival</em>, and <strong><em>HBO’s New York International Latino Film Festival</em>.</strong> On the literary front, her writings have been published by venerated literary staple <strong><em>Lambda Literary</em></strong> and the underground art & lit magazine <em>This Great Society</em>. Her first book <em>The Voting Booth After Dark: Despicable, Embarrassing, Repulsive</em> is still drawing laudable reviews and is available on many online shops including <strong>Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com</strong> and GiovannisRoom.com.</p> <p>Her production company “The Fiat Libertad Co.” assembles literary and cinematic works that reflect the varied experiences of underrepresented, atypical and eccentric human communities. Her books and films candidly depict sub-cultural issues through distinctive styles that challenge conventional forms of storytelling. In short, The Fiat Libertad Co. produces intimate literature and cinema about uncommon lives for the collective heart.</p>
