art, performance and ideas

I create art situations and participatory works of all kinds, concentrating on interaction, performance and play as modes of inquiry. I have been making work for over 25 years in several different artistic spheres. With 2012, The Year of Dance, I have been working on the meta-performance of being a dancer and a dance-maker, putting the labor of the making of the performance on equal ground with the culminating performance moment. I am acting as an anthropologist, a participant-observer living within and analyzing simultaneously the world i already know intimately. Much of the year will be spent experimenting with, and will culminate with, 40 Dancers do 40 Dances for the Dancers. The piece brings together a large, eclectic group of friends and colleagues to construct a series of performances based on The Pronouns: A Collection of 40 Dances for the Dancers, a book of performance instruction poems written by my father, poet/composer/multi-media artist Jackson Mac Low, in celebration of what would have been his 90th birthday.
