<h2>About the author:</h2> <p>James M. Branum is a civilian lawyer who has practiced military/GI Rights law for almost 6 years. He has represented dozens of war resisters and conscientious objectors (as well as hundreds of other soldiers) during that time at more than a 20 posts nation-wide to date, as well as before military appellate courts and administrative boards.</p> <p><img style="float: right; margin: 10px;" src="http://jmbranum.com/bankruptcy-temp/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/picofjmb-11.jpg" alt="picture of James M. Branum" width="183" height="250" /></p> <p>Notable clients have included <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Long" target="_blank">Robin Long</a> (the first US soldier to flee to Canada during the current wars to later be deported),<a href="http://archive.truthout.org/081209a" target="_blank">Travis Bishop</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Agosto" target="_blank">Victor Agosto</a> (some of the first US soldiers to refuse to deploy to Afghanistan).</p> <p>Besides his legal work, the author has conducted seminars for a variety of audiences including continuing legal education for attorneys, trainings for paralegal GI rights counselors, and presentations to churches and community groups.</p> <p>The author currently is the Legal Director of the Oklahoma Center for Conscience and Peace Research and is the Minister of Peace & Justice at Joy Mennonite Church.
