Michael Cala has been writing and photographing professionally for over 20 years. For the past 10 years, he has been a writer-producer and illustrator of Internet content, video, and multimedia for a variety of employers and clients, including ad agencies, nonprofits, and a major magazines. He is currently researching a dual biography of blues singer Mamie Smith and her composer, Perry Bradford, who wrote Mamie's groundbreaking "Crazy Blues," the first vocal blues sung by an African American.
