Whitney Vanderleest

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Whitney began her love for the outdoors as a kayaker at the age of nine. Winning her first medal in sprint kayak at age 11, she went on to win numerous junior national titles through her teens. Whitney became an integral part of the Canadian junior national team and competed for Canada at the World Championships in Hungary. Her love for fitness and athletic endeavors continued as Whitney became a personal trainer in Ottawa. There she developed her passion for encouraging individuals to lead healthier lives and develop their own love for exercise and wellness. In 2009, Whitney moved across the country to northern B.C. to work in reforestation, in a setting she feels happiest; the outdoors! After the season she packed up her gear and began a year long trek through South America. Throughout her travels, Whitney came to appreciate the importance of conservation and the uniqueness and beauty of Canada. Whitney’s wealth of paddling experience and health, wellness knowledge, and passion for the outdoors make her an invaluable asset for the trip before us. She’s extremely excited to be able to see Canada in a way so few will ever be able to.
