When I was growing up in various small towns in upstate New York, I always knew I wanted to entertain people. I remember several vacations where I devised a traveling circus show and put together towels on clotheslines so my brother and I could perform theatre for family members. I received a tape recorder for my birthday one year, and for the following months I was the anchor of a radio show, where I was always the special guest, the anchor, and the in-residence expert on any given topic. I stole my father's 1989 video camera when I was twelve and began to make full-length films, talk shows, and commercials. I've always loved making my mom smile. That was pretty much the goal during my adolescence, and she loved all of my projects.

Last year I graduated from the State University of New York College at Oneonta with a dual Bachelor's degree in theatre and English. I immediately knew I wanted to move to New York City to pursue the performing arts in a bigger way. I entered the Educational Theatre and English Master's program at New York University in the fall of 2011, and I am now on a break from classes. My dream has always been to direct plays, but during the school year, many other extracurricular activities often make that difficult, not to mention the fact that I don't have the funds to put a project like that together by myself. My mentor and good friend suggested I direct a play in this summer, and now here I am! My mentor, whose name is Steve, is now my Assistant Director. I am directing my first play of, I am sure, many more to come.

I am committed to theatre in the way that it can raise awareness for human unity and social justice. When asked to speak at Robert Frost's funeral at Amherst College, President John F. Kennedy said: "The artist, however faithful to his personal vision of reality, becomes the last champion of the individual mind and sensibility against an intrusive society and an officious state." This is a view that I would love to adhere to concerning myself as an artist, but first I need the experience. I firmly believe that the art of a society will go on to define that society, and I am finally ready to contribute to mine.
