insider access for teens to the real world of Science, Tech, Engineering & Math
<p>As a freelance writer, I've published more than 100 articles covering topics such as landmine removal and genetic engineering for publications including <em>Christian Science Monitor</em> and <em>Vegetarian Times</em>. <span><strong>I</strong>n 2010, with the Office of School Partnerships at UMass Lowell, I created </span><span><a href="http://www.nestemnet.org/"><em><span>STEM matters</span></em></a></span><em><span>,</span><span> </span></em><span>a themed educational webzine for k-12 teachers, students & families. I served as creative producer and managing editor of <em>STEM matters</em> for two years; in 2011, the webzine was nominated for a National Science Teachers Association award, and in 2012 it received an Online Learning award from the International Society for Technology in Education. </span></p> <p><span>For several years, I've dreamed of starting a small educational media company that would involve teens in producing videos for their peers. In February, 2012, I wrote the initial business plan for Real World STEM, LLC. In April 2012, I received the "Women Entrepreneurs in Digital News Frontier Grant" from the International Women's Media Foundation, and <em>Real World S.T.E.M. (</em>the website and the LLC<em>)</em> became a reality-in-progress.</span></p> <p>Thank you for helping it along!</p>
