<p>Tom grew up around aninals and takes great pleasure in rehabilitating animals with a troubled past. Prior to adopting Alfalfa, Tom rehabilitied an African Grey parrot in Jordan that came from an abusive situation.</p> <p>For his day job, Tom works as a journalist based in Kabul, Afghanistan where he is a correspondent for The Christian Science Monitor. His work has also appeared in USA Today, The Guardian, The Times, GlobalPost, The National, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and other periodicals. Tom has provided on-the-ground news analysis for National Public Radio, CBS News Radio, France 24, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation TV, and others. </p> <p>Specializing in Afghanistan, the Middle East, conflict, and military issues, Tom has reported from Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, the West Bank, Kuwait, Jordan, and throughout the United States. </p> <p>Tom grew up in southern California and graduated from Northwestern University where he majored in Middle Eastern Studies and minored in creative writing. In the course of his travels, he introduced the Arnold Palmer to Amman and scones to Kabul.</p>
