Hardcore Punk Kid Gone Hip-Hop

I am a 25-year-old independent artist, producer, and promoter from Vancouver, BC. I've been writing poetry since I was able to hold a crayon. I have been in the hardcore-ska band The Wrecktals (Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/thewrecktals and Bandcamp: http://thewrecktals.bandcamp.com/) since it was conceived in 2007. I personally booked and promoted hundreds of very successful shows, and as many Western Canadian tours as you have fingers on a hand. Just before my band got started, I started an independent, youth music collective in the boring suburb I was residing in at the time called the Ridge Radicals to give the kids out there something to do that wasn't crystal meth. It worked. It has had a solid 1200 members since 2009 and is responsible for the youth's music community still thriving there today.

The Wrecktals are on a bit of a hiatus, but I could never stop writing even if I tried. I am a Weapon of Mass Creation. I thought I'd try something new. I've always been a poet and a lyricist, and a major connoisseur of both the written and spoken word. I am passionately in love with conscious, inspiring, thought-provoking hip-hop, and found the independence of such a project alluring. I could do whatever I wanted to, say whatever I wanted to, and answer to no one. I could apply my the expertise and skills gained in the underground punk scene in my own band, and apply it to the production of my own beats. I wouldn't have to rely on other band members to be present for writing, practicing or shows. This is 100% DIY ethos incarnate. My entire studio is one SM58. This hip-hop project has turned out to be "poor man's punk". It's full freedom and it's limitless. And I love it.
