Arts Coordinator of Artists in Storefronts!

A little over a month ago, thinking about the consequences of the hateful amendments we are facing on our ballot this November as well as the potential role public art can play in informing and persuading the community, I wrote an impassioned letter to The Guerrilla Girls. I asked them if they would consider participating in the MN electoral process by creating a billboard campaign featuring an image in support of defeating the Marriage and Voter ID amendments. Honestly, I never thought they would ever respond. They were in Krakow lecturing when I penned my note.

You can only imagine my surprise to hear "Hello, Joan, this is Frida Kahlo of the Guerrilla Girls and I am very intrigued by your recent letter." on my voice mail one week later. Fast forward a month and we have worked out all the necessary details, they are ready to create a billboard image and up to ten billboards have been sourced via CBS Outdoor media for the month of October.

I partnered with Erin Sayer of Cult Status Gallery to create a benefit event to raise the money necessary to make this project a reality.

Thanks to the generosity of the local arts community, Cult Status Gallery, WARM, SOO VAC, and their supporters we have almost reached our goals!

THANK YOU!!
