We are raising money to make a documentary film about Maasai predicament and the dilemma of wildlife. Tanzanian Government is violently evicting the Maasai, and other indigenous peoples, from their land for many reasons including investment by safari companies.

            Tourists will ultimately crowd out wildlife in the Serengeti National Park.

The Maasai have, since time immemorial, tolerated wildlife. This explains why the highest concentration of wildlife and widlife protected areas remaining on this planet are to be found in Maasailand. Masai Mara National Reserve, Nairobi National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park, Mkomazi National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Amboseli and many other wildlife protected areas are in Maasailand.

Yet the Tanzanian state violently displaces the Maasai to give room for other land uses including foreign private investments.

Like the Maasai, wildlife are facing a similar fate. Poachers are mowing down wildlife to feed ivory markets in Asia. Tons of ivory from Tanzania bound to Hong Kong, Thailand and elsewhere in Asia are often seized at destination. Between 2000 and 2013 33 tons of ivory were seized in Hong Kong heading to China. Nearly 30 elephants are killed every 24 hours. There were 109,000 elephants in Tanzania in the 2000s. Poachers pounded the population to less than 70,000 in 2012 according to the Arusha-based TAWIRI.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Lu Youqing, admitted in a moment of rare honesty:

"Some Chinese nationals and companies are engaged in corruption and illegal ivory trade in Tanzania."

Licensed hunters mainly from the West are similarly killing wildlife in Tanzania. In July 2013 President Barack Obama of the United States visited Tanzania. Obama promised to help Tanzania fight poaching. However, President Obama dutifully avoided any mention of the worst crime against wildlife; hunting animals including elephants in the name of sports.

        Elephants are dying in Tanzania due various reasons including poaching.

On April 4, 2014 the United States Fish & Wildlife Service finally banned sport-hunted trophies from Tanzania and Zimbabwe "because elephants in those countries faced an uncertain future." The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Lazaro Nyalandu, intensely protested:

"We want to speak with the US Government to reverse the ban since it will be harmful to wildlife conservation in Tanzania. The Government has started a process of holding talks with the US authorities, and I am ready to travel to the US for talks."

In fact the Tanzanian Government is not alone in protesting the ban of wildlife trophies. To be sure Safari Club International, the US-based syndicate of wildlife hunters with over 30,000 members worldwide, went to court to challenge the ban claiming that by killing wildlife it is in fact preserving them. The film looks at these storylines avoided by the mainstream media.

Wildlife faces another serious problem which is avoided by the mainstream media in the interests of tourism business. Tourists, like Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, fly into the delicate ecosystems like Serengeti National Park. How sustainable are cars and aircrafts in parks like Serengeti and Maasai Mara?
