We’re about to celebrate 10 years of Free Theatre in the Parks. 10 years of bringing FREE theatre to dozens of communities. 10 years of amazing productions with exceptionally talented actors, designers and directors. 10 years becoming a part of the summer traditions in neighborhoods throughout the region. We think it’s kind of a big deal… and we’d like your help in making this a spectacular year-long Anniversary Celebration!
WHO is CCTC?
Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company (CCTC), so named because we wish to serve the common good, is a professional 501(c )(3) nonprofit theatre organization founded and incorporated in Pennsylvania in 2005. Our mission is to present theatrical works with universal themes that bear witness to the rich variety and commonality of human experience, and to enhance the appreciation of theatre as a humanizing art form.
WHAT are we DOING??
It’s our 10th Anniversary Season and this is going to be good! We’ll kick off the summer with a Free Theatre in the Parks production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Unrequited love, star-crossed lovers, twins separated by disaster, rowdy family members, a servant with delusions of grandeur, and a musical fool, all make for a riotous evening with the Bard. Following that will be a Cool Classics production of Tennessee Williams’, The Glass Menagerie, a play about the fragile beauty and utter waste of life lived on memories and dream. At a moment in our own history when we, as a society, always seem to be on the verge of moving forward into a new era while at the same time re-fighting the battles of previous generations, The Glass Menagerie has never been so powerful or relevant.
WHY do we do what we do?
CCTC was founded by like-minded artists dedicated to the principle that theatre is a vital component of a civil society. We are passionate about theatre and we believe that taking theatre to the ‘backyards’ of a community is a basic ingredient towards fulfilling our mission. Our goal is to merge artistic excellence with affordable and geographically accessible theatre every summer. Through our Free Theatre in the Parks and Cool Classics programming, we are uniquely able to offer a
magical and ephemeral communal experience – an experience that has been enhancing the quality of communal life for thousands of years.
WHERE will we do it?
Our Free Theatre in the Parks performances take place in public spaces throughout the 5-County region (and South Jersey too!). From Love Park in Philadelphia to West Goshen to Lansdale, wherever we can find a patch of green and willing audience, we will perform. Though our needs are modest, our artistic quality is not; our professional actors and designers are among the very best in the Philadelphia area.
Cool Classics productions take place in Philadelphia...indoors…with air conditioning! Same great work, more of the best professional actors and designers, but inside...with air conditioning!
WHEN is this all going to happen?
Our 10th Anniversary Season productions will take place in July and August 2014.
