OUR STORY:

Hello, this is Jonah and Jeremy! We are two 19 year old filmmakers! We grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, exploring the city streets and hiking the State Parks nearby, capturing it all on our cameras. Jonah just finished his first year of college in Santa Barbara, pursuing Film Studies and Environmental Science. Jeremy will attend his first year of college this fall, pursing Film Production at NYU in New York City.

We first started filming fun videos about camping and backpacking trips with our Nature Awareness class 3 years ago. Since then we’ve barely put our cameras down! Doing videography work for various non-profits with a consistent theme of environmental consciousness.

Now we are ready to make our first fictional short film, 27 Gallons! This project has two major objectives. First, we want to create a story about the most precious natural resource in California, water. We constantly hear news about the current drought and we clearly see its effects on some of our favorite landscapes and their inhabitants. Yet we are surprised by how causally many people are treating this problem which is severely affecting the entire west coast.  What happens when we run out of water? Second, we want to answer this question by harnessing the film techniques we’re learning and apply them to create the most thrilling three minute short you’ve ever seen. We have our storyboards, production outlines, shot-list and script at the ready and we’re eager to get this film rolling.

SYNOPSIS OF THE FILM:

Set in the bleak future, in a time when the California drought has gotten worse than ever and a sudden raging tornado has sent most people fleeing to relocation communities in the mid-west. This story follows a grandfather desperate to help his granddaughter stay alive as she suffers from extreme sickness and fatigue due to the arid conditions. In a small demolished town, he makes a deal to keep her alive... but can he hold up his end of the bargain?

OUR PLAN:

We are entering this film into the “My Rode Reel 2015 International Film Competition” which has simple criteria. It has to be 3 minutes long and deadline is June 1st. However! We have also planned to shoot additional scenes to accommodate a longer short film which we will be entering into other film festivals.

Production will be on May 22nd and 23rd. We will be camping in Joshua Tree National Park and filming in two locations near there. One is an abandoned mining town called, Desert Center. The other is Kelso Dunes in the Mojave National Preserve.

Pictures taken on our location scouting trips.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:

Even though we are fronting the money for this project we really need to reach our goal so we don't go bankrupt. We are college students.

This is what your money will go directly towards:

-Equipment

We are so excited to rent high quality equipment! We are renting a Sony A7s camera. This camera will deal with the bright contrasting tones in the desert,  and give us a higher quality and much more cinematic image than the DSLR’s we normally shoot on.

-Food

We will be HUNGRY and our cast and crew will be too!

-Transportation

This is the biggest cost which we need to cover. We are planning to limit the usage of cars to 3. So we need to pay for three cars to travel through multiple locations in the desert for two days.

-Lodging

We’ll be doing some 5 Star tent camping in the desert which we need to pay for.

-Talent

If we exceed our goal we want to pay our actors and sound editor for all the hard work they will be putting in.

If you’ve made it to the bottom of the page you’re a real trooper! We sincerely thank you for your consideration. Make sure to check out the awesome perks we have listed on the right side of the page, for different donation amounts. And even if you can't donate you can still help by telling your friends about our campaign.

Lets go make a movie!

Jonah & Jeremy
