The Background Story:
Widely considered as one of the underground's finest, Profound is finally ready to release his first full length project. Originally from Bolingbrook, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) Profound would make the 30 mile trip to the city almost daily to perfect his craft. In the exclusive world that was Chicago underground hip-hop Profound was able to make his mark with a mix of heartfelt performances, witty freestyles and absolute deadly battle rhymes. At the time Profound had become just as recognized and demanded as his then counterparts Juice and Rhymefest. This led to a number of guest verses and 12 inch singles that began what was sure to be a promising career. In addition to his rise as an underground legend Profound entered in and won the first MTV online Emcee contest where voters from around the world voted for and named him the winner. The prize: A single deal with Loud Records who at the time was the premier Hip-hop label with artists such Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep and the Akaholiks on their roster.
Profound flew to New York with his manager to meet with Steve Rifkin and the Loud staff who instantly recognized the talent and negotiations began to extend his deal to a full album option. This was hip-hop heaven! Then it went left almost as fast as it had happened to begin with. Loud Records parted ways with thier distribution partner (RCA) and began negotiations with Sony. At this time Steve Rifkind informed Profound he couldn't promise anything with the new deal as the particulars were still being worked out. Profound had a tough decision to make, wait it out with no guarantees or take a cash buyout of 50k with the option to revisit a record deal once the dust had settled. It goes without saying he opted for the cash. A decision he still regrets to this day, but has learned a great deal from.
The Mission:
During his ten year hiatus from the scene Profound has been raising his children and continuing to hone his skills as an Emcee and producer. He also kept a regular schedule at the studio along with producer partner and longtime engineer Geno of the Rec Center Crew. In 2014 Profound decided that he would re-dedicate himself fully to hip-hop once more. This decision was enhanced greatly when he was contacted by the Theare (pronounced like Theory) Group to participate in the Midway Documentary: A history of Chicago hip-hop. The call couldn't have come at a better time, with personal conflicts swirling and his father having just passed in August 2014 Profound was once again looking for inspiration.
The inspiration is and always has been the music and it will continue to be.It would be so much love to hit our goal, but we have no problem grinding this thing out and building up our situation one at a time. Thanks to everybody who has supported over the years and has been an inspiration to keep this dream alive. 97.
