What We're Doing
NDT is back in the studio undertaking another new, innovative work '53 Movements'. Choreographer Brenda Neville and the company dancers take on composer Terry Riley's musical masterpiece 'In C' for our 2018-2019 season, stepping out of our comfort zone to create an intricately layered feast of movement with heavily integrated improvisational options.
Referred to as the founding work of music minimalism, Terry Riley's pioneering 1964 composition 'In C' consists of 53 short, musical phrases played with improvisational aspects. In the same vein, Brenda and the dancers are creating 53 corresponding movement phrases, also consisting of both set and improvised components. The end result, a 45-minute explosion of music and movement performed to Bang on A Can's 2011 recording of Mr. Riley's score, that is unique with each and every performance .

For our 13th season we are focused on investing our time, energy and funds in this exciting new work while increasing our presence and recognition in the dance community. Happily, we've been given a rare and privileged opportunity to share the stage with Paul Taylor II, a pioneering modern dance company recognized the world over, on November 8 to present a 12-minute segment of '53 Movements' at Dixon Place in NYC. Large audiences and media attention is expected and for many this performance may be their first-look at our company. Your support of this campaign assures that we will have the necessary time in the studio for rehearsals and for the creative process so that our company and work will be at its best.
