KLAWS ~ Kawartha Lakes Animal Wellness Society
KLAWS is a dedicated group of like minded individuals, who believe that every animal deserves to live their life filled with love, dignity and respect.
We started in December of 2013 and have not looked back. We help one at a time and believe that is how we have been able to be as successful as we have. We have helped over 100 cats, either by reuniting with their owners, finding new humans for strays and abandoned and assisting dogs with getting into rescues or adopted.
Our mission is to control the population of cats in our community by providing TN/SR (Trap/Neuter/Spay/Return or Rehome) and educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering and vaccinating.
Since we do not have a facility, we have a few foster homes, that allow us to get the kitty off the street and into a loving environment. We have an adoption process, that to date has been very successful. KLAWS is a family and we stay in touch with our adoptors and provide updates on a regular basis to our supporters.
Fundraising is always on going
Every day we are contacted to assist. Every penny raised goes towards the cats in our care, whether it is de-fleaing, de-worming, spay/neuter and vaccines or getting the kitty medical attention.
Even if our goal is not reached, every penny counts. Spaying or neutering one cat, is 1000's that will not be at risk living a life on the street. Life for cat on the street is not a long life. We want to assist in stopping that. Our long term goal will be to assist with a low cost spay/neuter clinic in our community so that we can reach beyond those that are on the street, and stop it from happening in the first place.
The Impact we can have is huge
Our work is valuable to our community and to the lives of the cats we help. We are reuniting lost pets, we are making families whole and we are assisting in the over population that many communities face, however we can't do it without the assistance of our volunteers and our donors.
Challenges
We are challenged on a daily basis in regards to finding fosters, coming up with funds and finding passionate people to assist us on our journey. Many do not believe in spaying & neutering. Many believe in the importance of it but can't afford the vet bill for that particular procedure all at once. These people or families, can still be responsible loving homes. We aim to assist in educating the public on this, and we hope, that one day, the vets in our community will also get behind us, so we can provide low/cost spay neuter.
Other Ways You Can Help
The saying is so true, if you can't adopt - foster, if you can't foster - donate and if you can't donate - volunteer and if you can't volunteer - share. Sharing is the easiest thing anyone can do. You never know who it may end up reaching.
