Now that you know a little bit about the film we are trying to make, why not get to know a little bit about the person trying to make it. My name is Derek Schneider and I’m a filmmaker from Tacoma Washington. The horror genre has always fascinated me and I’m always seeking out movies that can leave me pinned down in my seat with fear. Being a fan of those types of films, it wasn’t long before I started to discover the wonderful world of Horror Comedy.
The film that we are trying to make was an idea we had while brainstorming for a 72-hour competition. We loved the idea but knew that we wouldn’t be able to fit it into the time limit of the film. So, I kept it tucked away in my notebook, waiting for the right moment to unveil it. I knew that if we were going to make this film, it had to be done right.
Enter the Grand Cinema/Film 253 Grant program!
After competing in the latest short competition at The Grand Cinema here in Tacoma, I applied for a filmmaking grant because I knew that this would be the best opportunity I had to get Dinner Party made the way it should be. While I didn’t receive the amount I applied for, they did offer me a smaller percentage in an effort to fund more projects that were submitted. I graciously accepted the grant but was left with a gap in the amount that I had and the amount I needed to make a good film.

So here we are, hat in hand, asking you, our wonderful, loving, generous, and oh-so-good looking family and friends, to help us reach our very reachable goal to get this little film idea a permanent home. It has so much potential and even the small donations will help this film reach its full potential. Thank you.

Not many people know this, but making a film is pretty expensive. I know, I know. I couldn’t believe it either until I started moving forward with this project. I had no idea that the people acting in your film want to be fed while they are on set. Did you know that people who have nice cameras generally won’t just let you borrow their equipment for free?! Even when you promise to be super duper careful with it and that the only reason you broke the last one was because the person you cast to play a witch in your film turned out to be an actual witch, and when she was unhappy because there was no food on set for her to eat, she cursed you and turned your fingers into butter right before you picked up the camera.
All joking aside, making a film really isn’t cheap. Thankfully, when I was going to school for video production, I suckered one of the teachers into liking me enough that when I was looking for help to make this film, he reached out to me and offered up some of the schools equipment in exchange for giving his current students an opportunity to work on the film. I had a few of these opportunities when I was enrolled there, and I remember how valuable they were. So I jumped at the chance to pass an opportunity like that on to another group of young filmmakers.
While the equipment and crew that we are getting from the school are great, there are still some things we will need to cover that the school doesn’t have. These aspects are where the majority of the money is going. Set Design, Props, Makeup FX, and Post-Production will eat up the largest chunks of this budget as you can see represented in the lovely Dinner Party Production Pie (chart) below.

You may be saying to yourself "Gee-whiz. This movie sure sounds like it would be a real hoot to see, and I'd love to help a local artist bring their creative vision to life, but I just spent my last dollar on these magical beans." To which I would say "First, don't plant those beans. Second, don't fret. There are still ways to help us get this film made that don't involve you giving us money."
The best thing you could do is click the links below and give us a like or follow on our social media pages. Once you do that, share the hell out of them with your friends and tell them to do the same thing you just did. Maybe one of your friends just won that Mega Millions jackpot and is wondering what he could possibly spend his money on. He's just scrolling through Facebook and happens to see the post you shared from our films facebook page and he's like "THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF MOVIE I WANT TO SEE!!" So he gives us a little chunk of that sweet jackpot money and we make this film the most amazing thing that's ever been made. Then you can look back and tell your friends, while you're all chilling on your mega-rich friend's yacht, that this movie only got made because you shared that Facebook page. Enough about your rich friends, though. Here are the links to our social media pages! Follow them for updates on the progress of this here campaign and special behind-the-scenes pics and videos during production!
