We are so incredibly grateful for all of your amazing support! Like Lucy says, we're not alone and y'all have proven that so tangibly with your generosity towards this film.

We reached our initial funding goal with just under three weeks left to go! So that means we're able to fully cover the cost of our distribution insurance, generate Spanish subtitles for Latinx communities, keep the administrative/operational lights on, and pay for all fees and costs associated with this campaign. We can not thank you enough!

Now we can take the film's impact further with our next stretch goal! With more resources, we'll be able to apply to more film festivals, create some more margin for our operational expenses (website, Google Workspace, etc.), and recoup some of the production costs. Several of our friends donated their time and talents to this film and we'd love to be able to pay them back if we can!

Technically it's called "Producer's Errors & Omissions Insurance" and it is extremely important to protect the filmmakers in the event that legal action is taken against the film. It's a common practice for documentaries, especially ones like ours that highlight social injustice.

"A Good Neighbor" follows Lucy Molina, a Latina single mother, as she battles racism and climate change while running for city council in the highly polluted area of Commerce City, Colorado. Facing numerous pollutants from an oil refinery, energy plant, and more, Lucy's family suffers health issues including migraines and cancer due to their toxic environment. Despite the community's limited resources and unheard voices, Lucy stands as a beacon of change, holding those responsible accountable.

Over a six-month campaign, the film showcases Lucy's determined efforts against well-funded opponents, highlighting her uphill struggle to engage the hesitant voters in her predominantly Latinx neighborhood.

"A Good Neighbor" sheds light on Commerce City's urgent issues, emphasizing the importance of local political engagement. Lucy's story serves as a catalyst for action, inspiring viewers to advocate for climate justice and reform while encouraging participation in local politics and elections.

  • A Good Neighbor premiered in a packed house at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival in February 2023
  • Accepted to Mimesis Doc Festival, Breckenridge Film Festival, and others we'll be announcing soon!
  • Picked up by Good Docs distribution company, whose library includes the recent Academy Award-winning documentary Navalny and the AOC Climate Change doc To The End.

Our goal of $5,000 covers distribution insurance, operational expenses, and costs related to running this campaign (t-shirts, stickers, IndieGoGo fees, etc). We made this film to tell Lucy's story and create awareness of the dire situation going on in Commerce City, not to earn a profit.

...but! If we earn more than $5k we can create stretch goals for:

  • Submission fees for more film festivals
  • Subsidizing screening fees for low-income communities
  • Travel & promotional costs of touring with the film/attending film festivals/getting the word out
  • Carbon offsetting our production footprint

If nothing else, we believe that Lucy’s story deserves to be told. This film will be a success if audiences can see Lucy’s incredible example and believe that they too can fight and make a difference in their communities.

We define success as:

  • Increased voter turnout in local elections
  • More "everyday" women running for political office
  • Regulations and accountability for polluters in North Denver, and others around the nation
  • Awareness of environmental racism and gentrification
  • Empathy for the people impacted by climate change
  • Inspiration for people around the country to take action just like Lucy

Maggie Hart - Director/Producer - As a self-starter in the indie film world, Maggie Hart is no stranger to wearing multiple hats with shoestring budgets. She spent three years in LA as an award-winning writer, commercial producer, and screenwriting teacher, but longed for more meaningful work. In 2018 she shifted gears to documentary production, fulfilling a lifelong dream of using the power of cinematic storytelling to shift culture and change the world.

This core belief in the power of storytelling led her to co-found Farsighted Creative, a production company that looks beyond the trends of our current culture to tell meaningful stories that create empathy for today and a hopeful vision for tomorrow. She has since produced documentary podcasts, short films, episodic series, and commercial content focused on promoting sustainable brands.

Brittany Zampella - Director/Producer - Brittany Zampella is a film producer who’s passionate about authentic storytelling. After working for a documentary company for three years, she produced her first narrative short film in 2019. Shortly after, she launched Farsighted Creative, a production company focused on creating meaningful and culture-shifting content. She has since produced documentary podcasts, short films, episodic series, and commercial content focused on promoting sustainable and impact-driven brands. No matter the medium, her passion is to tell meaningful stories that encompass the human experience and promote a more empathetic world.
