Overview
"This, dears, is the story Of those three momentous days Our Monster left his house In three very different ways." **** This campaign is to help raise funds for the thesis short film "A Monster of a Closet." This film is an inspiring story about a Monster who ventures outside of his closet, and learns truths about humanity and himself. We cannot do this without your help, so please consider supporting us. Thank you.

Cast of Characters

Come meet the players in our little tale. Encounter the magic they wish to unveil.

Here is the Narrator, who's very profound. His voice and his words will keep you spellbound.

This is his Grandson, a mischievous lad, who can't wait to hear a story from his granddad.

Our hero, the Monster, please do not fear. You will find, as I have, he's really quite dear.

The first visitor to ascend the hill's crest. Meet the Business Man who swears he knows best.

Next is Orion, hippie leader extraordinaire.  He shows the Monster a world without care.

Our last adventurer is this little Boy. He collects bugs, plays outside, and shows the Monster how much there is to enjoy.

The characters in our tale have all been revealed. Following this is our team and the power they wield. Their bios have been crafted over much time, so I'm sorry to say that none of them rhyme.

Our Team

John Weaver - the Monster; Executive Producer

John Weaver originally hails from Cleveland, Ohio. He moved to Southern California a few years ago to pursue a career as an actor; an art that for fifteen years was his greatest means of expression. He has studied the techniques of geniuses such as Stanislavski, Meisner, Adler, and his favorite, Michael Chekov. He loves bringing humanity to characters who are not human. For this reason he is extremely excited to take up the role of the Monster in this film.

Susana Dueñas - Director

Susana Dueñas is a Mexican-American filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. A recent graduate of John Paul the Great Catholic University, she had the privilege of studying directing and screenwriting under Hollywood veterans. She has worked on countless student projects as Director, Cinematographer, Writer, Editor, and more. Susana’s love for film and passion for the truth seep through the stories that she creates. She is ecstatic to be directing and working alongside the cast and crew of A Monster of a Closet.

Sara Litke - Producer

Sara Litke has always been in love with stories whether it's watching them in movies or writing them herself. Stories have been the way she connects with the world. Sara is excited to be working on A Monster of a Closet because of its story, themes, and great challenges. She is grateful for the amazing team that she is working with and can't wait to see this film come to life.

Claire Phillips - Producer

Claire considers herself a producer, director, screenwriter, AND fan girl (not necessarily in that order.) An Ohio native, she ventured to sunny California to pursue filmmaking. Her favorite pastimes include eating ice cream, pretending her phone isn't always going off, and binge-watching her favorite shows when she gets three seconds of free time (in that order). A Monster of a Closet has been a blast to work on, and she can't wait to see it on the screen.

Mary Flynn - Creative Producer

Mary Flynn is the creative producer for A Monster of a Closet. She is an actress originally from Baltimore, Maryland who is currently an Acting and Media Communications Major at John Paul the Great Catholic University. She has been an actress professionally for 7 years, with a 4 year background in improvisation, 2 years in sketch comedy, and three years in commercial and dramatic film acting. She is currently the host of a comedic podcast featured on iTunes called Tampon Talk with Mary, a show that aims to remove the negative stigma around menstruation and reproductive health. She aspires to move to Los Angeles and pursue a career in media through means of both dramatic and comedic acting.

Maria Oscilowski - Writer

A Pennsylvania native, Maria studies screenwriting and producing at John Paul the Great Catholic University. Maria has always had a love for fairytales and poetry. Being able to combine these two passions into one project was a fun challenge. She hopes you will enjoy A Monster of a Closet just as much as she has enjoyed writing it.

Tian Kok - 1st Assistant Director

Tian discovered her love of assistant directing when she was assigned at random as the first assistant director of a film project. Since then, she's pursued this role and is excited to fulfill her part in A Monster of a Closet.

Elizabeth Vrklan - Director of Photography

Elizabeth Vrklan is the Director of Photography on Monster of a Closet. Born and raised in South Florida, she took an interest in film and photography from a young age. At fifteen, she began working professionally on films in camera and electrical. Since then, Elizabeth has worked creating the visual worlds of over fifty short films. She is a proud member of Women in Film (WIF). Currently, Elizabeth resides in New York where she freelances as a DP, Gaffer, and Colorist.

Andrew Carlisi - Gaffer

An independent writer, director, and producer, Andrew will be working as gaffer on A Monster of a Closet. Having graduated JPCatholic last September, he lives and works out of downtown Los Angeles. Drawn to stories about the contrast between darkness and light expressed in the human soul, Andrew is happy to serve this production to make sure lighting setups run quickly, safely and efficiently.

David Funes - Set Decorator

Born and raised in the greatest state in the U.S., Texas, David came from his mother’s womb to write, direct, and set dec the greatest stories in the world. If you ask David what his favorite food is he’ll say pizza before you can finish. David is happy to be a part of the team because he loves John Weaver so much (but not as much as Hugh Jackman).

Regan Danner - Editor

Regan is a ‘17 graduate from JPCatholic who received a BS in acting. She had a crush on editing in High School and really fell in love with it during her college years. Some of her best works include Monsters, Creation, and You Listened.

The Budget

Here is what the money is for:

  • Locations - the hill, the town, and buildings galore
  • Props/Set - we have to make his closet door
  • Cast - stipend for transport, so this won't be a chore.
  • Food - the actors and crew always want more
