The Project...
A Short Synopsis - (Production details further down)

A Naughty Thing Called Life "The Papa Spyk Story" is a visual depiction of a newly released, and incredibly well received, autobiography from Author, Edouard "Spyk" Gheur. The author tells us in his book of his rise to fame and riches as a well endorsed professional rugby player and successful model/television actor and how his addiction to steroids and cocaine brought everything he had worked for crashing down around him. In his early 30's his aorta, which acts as the main artery supplying the heart, exploded into pieces as a result of the intense and prolonged use of chemical enhancements and recreational drugs.
Spyk lived to tell the story of his agony and the journey of recovery he has been on since. Once told he would never be able to father a child, he now has a beautiful young daughter to be thankful for but problems still continue to arise in Spyk's life and the persistent struggle reveals the amount of fight one man can carry within himself.
An interview with Spyk, and a number of people who were involved in his fascinating past will provide as a narrative through the film. Entertaining re-enactments will be creatively scripted and directed, revealing a visual play-out of Spyk's life as the story unfolds....
The Filmmaker
- I, Mark Brown am a Film Producer and independent documentary maker. I have worked on a number of documentary and scripted film productions and have gathered official selection credits at festivals around the U.S.A and Europe. I have also had national television exposure for my own documentary work on British TV.

- The project was created after Spyk himself contacted me and asked me to read the book he had just had published. There has been a lot of buzz around the book itself and so many fantastic reviews. Spyk has been interviewed about his story on Sky News, Trisha and most recently the television programme "Jodie Marsh on Steroids" in which Jodie Marsh interviewed Spyk himself about what the drug did to him and highlighted the danger of this substance.
What You can Do With Us
- What contributors will be doing for the project is allowing for our British production company to fly to Louisiana, U.S.A where our American producer Mel Fisher has arranged locations for us to shoot the re-enactments to provide a visual depiction of Spyk's life as the story is being told through interviews with Spyk and the many people who were involved at every step of his fascinating life. We will also have a crew fly down to Florida to interview the vast number of people from Spyk's past, as he spent many years living here. Louisiana is one of the most popular shooting locations for main stream film in the U.S.A. Please watch this short video on film production in the state....

We have a variety of rewards and participation methods available to all contributors.
What We Need & What You Get
- We need the initial sum of $100,000 for travel expenses, equipment relocation, actors' and crew wages, storyboarding, catering, accommodation, music rights, live set and studio costs. Some further funding will hopefully be met when we begin shooting in the U.S by a third party executive investor depending on a pitch we will provide once we are there which we will look to use to cover further expenses.
- The perks exist to every single contributor to the film, however the nature of the perk is dependent on the amount donated.
- Any funds that are provided for the project will aid us towards getting the film made. If the target is not met in full it may be a case that we still have enough to get producers to the States to meet with an Executive to discuss further investment opportunity, or if we get the chance to send the interview crew to Florida for a week to pick up all necessary interviews from the many people who influenced Spyk's life and book, having these interviews alongside the interview we have already shot with Spyk himself will provide a narrative and a back bone to the documentary. So any donation means a lot to what we are trying to achieve.
The Impact
To get this film made and to be a part of it is an amazing opportunity for all concerned. With the fantastic production team we have just waiting to get started on the film, we will be aiming high with the final product. The film will be looking to making a huge impact on the high-end international film festival circiut as a first port of call.
- Everything one person could do in assisting us will bringing this project out of the board room would be so greatly appreciated and rewarded individually. Whatever it may be your help is very warmly acknowledged.
