RAISING FUNDS FOR “FROM AFRICA”: A CD OF NEW SOUTH AFRICAN PIANO MUSIC

I hope to raise funds in order to record and distribute “From Africa”, a CD of new previously unrecorded piano music by remarkable South African composers. The repertoire is fascinatingly varied reflecting the complex cultural environment of South Africa.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

An inspiring piece by NEO MUYANGA called HADE TATA (SORRY FATHER) (2013) composed in tribute to Nelson Mandela and celebrating 20 years of South African democracy in 2014. Muyanga incorporates African music from across the continent as well as fragments of struggle songs and Cape Malay jazz.

KEVIN VOLANS has composed PMB IMPROMPTU (2014) for me in celebration of a common birthplace, Pietermaritzburg.

HENDRIK HOFMEYR effectively makes use of characteristic Xhosa and Zulu rhythms  , evoking the vast spaces of Africa with a piece which includes fragments of San music.

WHO AM I?

I am a South African- born pianist who has lived in London for many years. I specialise in giving recitals of 20^th century and new music, often pieces written for me by composers from all over the world.  You can find out more about me on my website:  www.reneereznek.com
