Overview
In a time when we have advanced further than ever in terms of equality, families who identify outside of societies norm still face judgement, scrutiny, and prejudice. "A Real Boy" examines what can happen when the love for a child and the desire to protect him come up against society's expectations of what a family should look like.

Terry Hill loves her kindergarten students and when she fears that one of them is not being raised appropriately, she decides to take matters in her own hands and keep the child in her classroom to raise as her own. Things are complicated by the fact that this child’s parents happen to be puppets - and Terry fears the boy’s emerging strings will keep him from being a real boy.

How Will We Use These Funds?

All donations received will go towards paying our actors, designers and collaborators.

We have already received a grant from the City of Austin which will cover much of our production costs, so every dime donated by you will go towards increasing the stipends offered to our amazing cast and crew! Our goal is to be one of the highest paying troupes in Austin, help us get to that goal!

Why Us?

Last Act Theatre Company is a production company run 100% by women, 50% of whom are POC. We strive to focus on female voices, and the voices of underserved communities. We also focus almost exclusively on developing new works, and bringing fresh content to Austin's stages. Shakespeare is great, but do we need a 20th production of Midsummer Night's Dream?

This project asks what makes a family, is there more than one type of family, and is letting people go the best way to love them?

Other Ways You Can Help

If you can't help out with a donation to our cause, fear not! There are several other ways you can show your support. We are always looking for Front of House volunteers, and ways to get the word out! Share this campaign, blog about us, reach out! We are happy to hear from you!
