A Tribute to
Melat’s Life
November 23 will forever be seared in our mind
as the day we lost our dearest friend and sister Melat Woldearegay. She was planning for her dreams and
happiness when she unexpectedly passed from this world in a tragic car accident. Her sudden departure has shaken us to the
core and left a gaping hole in our hearts. Regret has engulfed our hearts as we thought we had plenty of time to tell Melat what an extraordinary human being she was or how so loved and admired she was
and STILL IS.
We so love Melat’s: bigger than life personality
that lit up a room; excessive loyalty, sometimes to a fault, to her friends and family; relentless support to those she loved no matter what they do or where they
are in life; ability to instantly connect with people from all walks of life – Melat
never met a stranger; and her amazing sense of humor and contagious enthusiasm.
We admire Melat’s: boundless generosity and kindness that extended beyond family and friends; intelligence and unmatched eloquence that left a lasting impression on anyone that crossed her path; innate leadership that made her the defacto chief in any circumstance; ability to put on a brave face even amidst the most trying of circumstances; and ability to be the queen bee and worker bee all at once during parties (we fondly remember the countless times Melat bossed us around at parties, while she also worked tirelessly in the kitchen, leading the cleanup crew after weddings/events).
Melat was
many things to many people. We will
always remember her boundless energy, and love for life, family and friends. Her passing 90 days ago has
made our world colder and the sun dimmer. As we grapple with the loss of Melat,
her friends and classmates want to honor her life and all that she embodied. Those who knew Melat closely remember how
much she loved books; since childhood, she was a voracious reader,
who continually strived to stretch her mind by reading all types of books.
As a
tribute to Melat’s legacy and her love for books, we want to raise fund to
refurbish Nazareth School’s library – the school where Melat spent 12 years of
her childhood. The donation will be used
to physically expand the library and create a better system that would provide
better reading facility for the girls. We
have $570 leftover from her memorial service but we want to raise at least
100,000 birr. We kindly ask anyone who has been touched by Melat’s
life and wants to honor her to contribute to this cause and help us exceed this goal. No contribution is too small so please donate whatever you can.
Please free to write how you know Melat and
what she means to you…
The school would place a plaque (with Melat's picture, etc) in the Library in memory of Melat.
God bless
you!!
