Our Story
A Very British Cult tells the story of Exegesis, one of the most important organizations in Britain during the 1980s, that you won’t read about in any history books.
Exegesis was a course of extreme self help seminars that grew in popularity during the early 1980s, and slowly began to take on the shape of a cult, causing a media firestorm.
The loyal, hardcore members moved into a small network of houses in North West London, and the group leader, Robert Daubigny became elevated to Guru-like status within Exegesis, and enemy number one to the British press of the 80s. This was a cult with a difference, however; Exegesis didn’t hide from publicity or the outside world, but actively sought to expand and transform British society from within.
Everybody wants to be sexier, richer, more intelligent, more self confident. Self help is still one of the largest industries in the UK and abroad. Looking at Exegesis and its legacy provides an early glimpse of the future.
A Very British Cult will be a surprising, controversial, and sometimes disturbing journey into a British phenomenon that will never be forgotten, but spoken about in hush-hush terms.
What We Need & What You Get
At November Films, we have learned to stretch every pound over the years, without sacrificing the authenticity of story or character.
We have set ourselves an ambitious goal for this campaign $21,000.
Of course it would be amazing to reach this figure, but we are looking at this campaign this way $500 buys us a day’s filming. $4000 buys us a trip to shoot abroad, and meet the characters who have left the UK, and so on.
Simply put, every penny that you contribute to this campaign has a huge impact on the project!
