Overview
BROUGHT TO LIGHT is a story of rediscovery, respect and change. The cleanup efforts by a few villagers of some stone markers in an overgrown field lead to the rediscovery of a forgotten, “slaves’ cemetery” in which hundreds of African-Americans were buried during the 1800’s. A portal to the past lives of Kinderhook’s lesser-known non-white population, the documentary explores Black history and the efforts of some Hudson Valley residents to restore respect to the Persons of Color Cemetery.

Short Summary

People we’ve never met can live in our memories. They walk in our dreams. They change our lives. The history and stories of real people will be brought to light with your help through this documentary. You can have a positive impact on the way that history is recalled in a small village and also to a larger universal internet audience.

Bringing history to light is important to me. As a freelance writer, novelist and videographer, I love a meaningful story. We’ve found one here.

Historians, officials, researchers and volunteers in and around Kinderhook are openly cooperating with Barbara Reina Productions, LLC to educate a global audience and uncover an important piece of their local history.

What We Need

Brought to Light is in production because we didn’t want to wait for funding and miss the story unfolding before our eyes:  The archaeological dig at the site to put the interpretive sign in place and a moving rededication ceremony. We're not done filming yet. There is still so much more to the story.

All funds donated will be put toward production and distribution costs including:
-Directing
-Filming
-Conducting interviews
-Research
-Writing
-Editing
-Fact checking
-Promotional video
-Final production of the full documentary
-Behind the scenes photos/video
-Equipment
-Advertising and marketing.

-We are also on the hunt for reenactment actors, voice talent and a narrator.

The Goal:  History and Education

-The goal is to have a finished production ready for the fall to educate global and local generations to come.
-The completed documentary will also be presented to nearby school system administrators along with historical and educational institutions in the hopes that it will be included in historical discussions and curricula.

The Impact of Your Contribution

You will be contributing to the furtherance of education and history.
You will be contributing to reviving the memory of those forgotten.
You will be contributing to a tribute of respect.
