Philadelphia Composers' Ink was founded in summer 2013 to connect area composers with a performance space for their music. Once we left college for the big wide world, we discovered that it is darn difficult to get our music heard - the awesome big spaces are looking for awesome (already famous) composers. So we created a space for modern compositions of all genres to be heard - Philadelphia Composers' Ink. Philadelphia Composers' Ink hosts monthly composers salons where composers bring works in progress and get feedback from the audience. We've had three so far, and they've been a blast - plenty of great music, lots of ideas exchanged, and about three tons of food consumed afterwards.
So then we had this crazy idea: why don't we invite even more composers in by creating a collaborative piece of music connected by an intellectual theme? "The planets" quickly became our theme, and we invited composers across the Philadelphia area to submit a movement to the competition. The final collaborative piece, "Airs of Other Planets" has music by four competition winners, three founders, two guest artists - and it's all played a quartet of string players. But, to put this concert on, we need funds! Your money will be used to pay the string quartet, print programs, contribute to our performance space, pay for some advertising, and buy food for a reception.
Philadelphia Composers' Ink promotes new artists, but it also promotes making new music accessible, interesting, fun, and something you want to come explore. We invite everyone to comment, and we value the insights that everyone from music novice to music afficionado give. Contributing helps us spread the musical word and keep doing projects like this that impact a wide range of Philadelphia composers and musicians.
If you can’t contribute, that doesn’t mean you can't help! Share our video on every social medium you can think of and help us spread the fundraising word! And, most importantly, come out and see the concert on December 8th! 7 pm at the First Baptist Church, 123 S. 17th St (intersection of Sansom and 17th), Philadelphia, PA.
Musical satisfaction guaranteed!
**Oh, and the music in the video? That was courtesy of the crazy haired dude (aka Beethoven) who started the movie montage. Symphony 7, last movement. Go listen, you'll love it!
