Black Streak Entertainment is a multimedia studio founded by brothers Justin and Terry L Raimey that adopts the Japanese anime art style to tell the stories of African American experiences through comics, games, and animation.

Alien Up is a game built from the ground up by solo-developer Justin Raimey. The pre-alpha demo–now available on Steam–is a passion project over 4-years in the making. Finishing Alien Up is important to Justin because he wants to create a game that’s fun and a valuable use of the player’s time. Rather than complain about the lack of Black lead characters in games and anime, Justin has poured his heart into developing a title that features characters who are representations of himself and Black Streak’s fanbase; in particular, a sci-fi game featuring a predominantly Black and brown cast of characters uniting to fight aliens in outer space, with a Black female character leading the cast.

This is a massive task for a solo creator to take on, which is why we have assembled a development team to complete Justin’s vision for Alien Up. In the event that we don’t meet our goal on Indiegogo, we have other means of raising the funds we need to realize our full vision of Alien Up. We are currently pitching to publishers and investors, and we are also raising revenue through our e-commerce site https://blackstreakanime.com/ and our membership site https://blackstreakentertainment.com/. Indiegogo is just one piece of our funding strategy.
The Impact
Anyone who has played the pre-alpha demo knows that Alien Up is a fun, strategic, and engaging game that provides enjoyable challenges with each level. What really makes this game special is the characters. In just about every game that is released, the majority of the cast is white or Asian, which is understandable, considering that the games are reflections of those who develop them. In the same way, Alien Up, is a reflection of developer Justin Raimey. The cast of characters are majority Black and brown, and the lead character, Chelsea Crisp, is a Black woman. Additionally, Black representation in anime and the sci-fi genre is super-rare, despite the fact that Black folks love anime and sci-fi too! Alien Up delivers a retro gaming experience with the representation that Black and brown gamers, anime fans, and cosplayers desire.

Our development team has a number of impressive titles to their credit. Their most recent title is G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra. Their experience and body of work is what ultimately led us to hire them to develop our full vision for Alien Up.
Risks & Challenges
As mentioned above, the development team that we've tasked is working on a retro G.I. Joe beat em up that has a similar look and play style as Alien Up, so we know that they have the experience, talent, knowledge, and resources to successfully complete the game under Justin's direction. The only challenge we face is funding. The development team requires payment to its staff with every milestone that is met in the development process, so having funds readily on hand to ensure the machine keeps running is of the greatest importance.
