The Story:
During the conflict in Syria, a little girl named Amal loses her father in a hospital explosion. An American volunteer doctor named Mary takes Amal under her wing and they both begin the steps to start a new life as a family in the United States.
When Mary and Amal arrive at the airport, an Immigration Officer tells Mary that she cannot bring Amal into the states, regardless of having taken all the necessary steps, because she is Syrian in a time where a travel ban is in place.
This story deals with a socio-political issue, but also shows the difficult circumstances that exist for many in the world right now. The two main characters are worlds apart, but are nevertheless able to communicate and bond with each other, and change each other's lives in a positive way.

Why This Film Matters to Us:
Amal represents every child who needs hope to survive and helplessly struggles to keep that hope alive. The film tells of how the importance of having a home is critical to the human condition while it visualizes the effects that war has on Syrian children and American citizens.
This project represents a culmination of the skills we've acquired as filmmakers from CSUN, and with the film medium, we wish to spread this message of hope as a call to action for the citizens of this world to love those who need it most.
