The Basics
Stateless Productions (Stateless) is requesting funding for its second documentary, “America’s Police Crisis.” As we witnessed the recent protests of the injustices perpetrated by police against American Citizens, we realized this was a subject that needed a deeper exploration than the superficial responses being offered. This film will explore the short history of the police force in America and how it has progressed to its current state in an effort to find solutions to the abuses that affect many in this country.
I am Chris Cofer, the film’s Director and Producer. My partners, Peter R. Quinones (host of Free Man Beyond the Wall podcast) and Robert Beeler, as well as an entire support team, have been developing this new documentary since completing our first documentary, “The Monopoly on Violence” in June 2020. We want to make a film that sparks a national dialogue about what is wrong with the way police operate in this country and how the systematic abuses have become increasingly prevalent. If we can convey the problem and potential solutions in a meaningful and engaging way, not only will we make more people aware of this problem, we may help prevent further police abuse, as well as the riots and violence that follow those abuses. And we are just the team to explore this difficult issue. We are dedicated to finding and sharing the truth.
What We Need & What You Get
The budget for this documentary is $60,000. While this may seem high, in the world of film production it is a reasonable cost for a feature length documentary. As independent filmmakers, we've learned to make every dollar count. We know the importance of investing in the right tools, the right crew members, and the right strategies in order to remain within budget while making successful films. By participating in the production of this film, you will receive the satisfaction of being part of a truly meaningful documentary as well as being able to tell friends you had an integral part in making movies that are seen worldwide. When you review the perks of funding this project, you'll see you will earn even more.
The Impact
This film is intended to bring awareness to those who do not understand the concerns of individuals who believe the police force in America has too much power, too little accountability, and does not provide the expected security services to those that pay them.
Stateless’ first project, the documentary, “The Monopoly on Violence,” almost doubled its goal in Crowdfund and we continue to receive accolades from donors and audiences stating they loved our work. The film is currently streaming on Amazon and receiving 5-star ratings. It has also received high ratings on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), with some of those ratings more positive than many studio produced films. We make films about ideas ignored by many and succeed in spreading those ideas to a broader audience.
This film deals with a less obscure subject matter than “The Monopoly on Violence,” which is why we believe a larger audience will be able to relate to it. We've all seen corporate media-produced videos that are sensationalized and lacking nuance. We've seen how Hollywood mythologizes law enforcement in our culture. We intend to tell the full story without pulling punches.
Risks & Challenges
Making a film is not without risks. These risks can include falling short of funding goals and being forced to create with less resources, or creating a film that does not connect with audiences in the way we anticipated. To reduce the risk of running over budget, we have taken the lessons learned in producing "The Monopoly on Violence" and retooled our approach to production. A professional Director of Photography has been hired in order to achieve the best shot each time, thereby reducing the need for multiple shots and/or reshoots. Instead of spending money on plane tickets and hotels, we are scheduling interviews within days of each other and traveling by RV to maximize efficiency and stay within budget. We've budgeted additional money for marketing to attract a larger audience. We have also hired a crew. The last film was a labor of love assembled by people who were just happy to make a film about a subject they were passionate about to share with others. This time, we are using paid professionals.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you want to be part of making this film happen, but are unable to afford the $50 tier, we have developed additional ways for you to help. You can donate a lesser amount to us on Paypal, as well as send cryptocurrency donations. If financial assistance is not a viable option, your donation of time and effort is just as valuable to us. You can help create awareness of this project by sharing this Crowdfund and our posts on social media. When the film is complete, we ask you to rate and review it on IMDb, Amazon, YouTube and anywhere else we have a presence. Our films are Creative Commons so they can be shared on file sharing networks or uploaded to video hosting sites. Spread the word by hosting a screening of the movie for friends or social organizations to which you belong. We will continue to make films as long as you are here to support us. Thank you from everyone at Stateless Productions!
