A new solo by Joss Carter
"Joss Carter is a master, a visionary, and a true fine artist"
- Ken Ludden, The Huffington Post
Once again, I am making a new contemporary dance theatre and live art solo completely single handedly. More than ever I need your financial support to help me through the physical and mental challenges within the research, development, creation and production processes for 'Anatomy of the Heart'. Already in momentum, this 25 minute solo work seems to be the most testing production yet.
I am looking for a minimum of £1900 but I am hoping that through the diversity of the perks below I will be able to exceed this goal, and give back to you ladies and gentlemen as much as I possibly can.
Many of you looking at this would have been following, or seen my work before in one way or another, so it comes as no surprise that this performance will be extreme and challenging to both you the audience, and I on many levels. If you are not familiar with my work please check out my website www.JossCarter.co.uk or read a short biography within my campaign profile.
I have given some good thought to what I am able to offer. Not just as a dancer but as an artist using many of my different skills and artistic ideas. I hope that something will entice you to support myself, the development, and the legacy of 'Anatomy of the Heart'.
About 'Anatomy of the Heart'
"Have you ever felt physically love sick, or just mentally sick of love? This cruel solo pursuit dissects the grotesque self conscious, anxious confessions of a romantically melancholic soul. I will be confronting the barriers between dance theatre and live performance art, stripping the human ego to its core to evoke the depressive methods of my madness within my own personal experiences of love and mental health. With a stage drenched in sadness, I will hang in a world of shame and denial with the hope of unearthing once again, the empathetic archeology of human existence and suffering, aiming to bring further awareness of its conceptual issues into the reality of its audiences."
'Anatomy of the Heart' will premiere at The Place, 17 Dukes Road, London, WC15 9PY on 20th February 2018 at 8pm as part of a triple bill of works during 'Resolution' Choreographic Platform.
Tickets are available to book through www.theplace.org.uk

What will you be supporting?
Financing myself to create the artistic work - this includes the research development, any research materials, studio maintainance
Financing myself to produce the artistic work - this includes the sleepless nights of creating such things like this kickstarter campaign, time spent keeping in contact and up to date with with the theatre, and basically making sure I am doing everything in my will to get an audience into the theatre and make this show a success.
Health and safety - this production is going to be the riskiest creation yet. I HAVE to make sure that all my equipment is of the best quality and safely rigged by a qualified expert.
Financing collaborators - this includes paying other artists involved Special FX, music producer, aerial rigger, my own technical team, film and photographers, and anyone else involved in the development of the production.
Financing set & stage design materials - this includes litres and litres of fake blood, metres and meters of rope, protective flooring,
Financing the development and production of marketing and promotion - includes the design and cost of printing flyers, posters and also any online advertisements and sponsorships to spark interest and get bums on seats.
Music licensing - for legal use of any other music involved in the production that has not been created specifically for the production.
The continuation and legacy of the project - because this is only the beginning and I hope that this will, like my other works continue to tour across the world for years to come.
Risks and Challenges
There are so many different complexities of being an independent solo artist and producer. With every venture comes both risks and challenges. Being a self employed artist means having to take risks with time, energy and personal expenditures. BUT.... hopefully with experience, pre planning and passion these can be minimised and over come quite easily.
The performance has a set date so that will happen no matter what! One risk with offering tickets on here is that the performance evening itself is ticketed to the general public. I need to keep up-to date with the theatre to make sure that there are still tickets available to book through me. I would hate for you to book a reward that includes a ticket and for them to already be sold out.
As a one man band I end up juggling 7 different swords at the same time. I aim to be on top form but at the same time know that I will run myself into the ground. Please be patient with me...as I have to give full attention to the creating the performance first.
Some pledges will take longer than others. Anything that is not to do specifically to the research, creation and performance in February will be delivered between April and August. Please remember that I have to create all of this by my own fair hands, whilst still working for other companies and on other projects around the world.
